STUART'S TRAINING GROUND TRIBUTE FOR 'BIG BOB'

17 November 2016

Ahead of City's Sky Bet League One fixture with Southend United this Saturday, City boss Stuart McCall and his players took the opportunity to remember legendary former striker Bobby Campbell, who sadly passed away earlier this week.

Campbell - City's current all-time greatest ever goal-scorer - was a team-mate of McCall's at Bradford during their playing days.

With Campbell renowned for his thumping headers throughout his seven-year spell at Valley Parade, McCall's men put on a special heading drill towards the end of training at Apperley Bridge this Thursday to honour City's memorable former number nine.

Speaking pitch-side, McCall said: "To honour the legend that is 'Big Bob', we have been doing a heading drill that he was always majestic at.

"We've pulled this drill out as a tribute to Bobby, he used to love it. I didn't always used to like it myself though because I used to get a bit of an ear-bashing from him if a cross wasn't spot-on!

"People will always remember David Beckham scoring from the halfway or special overhead kick goals but those have been replicated since.

"About thirty-five years ago though, I saw Bobby do something that I'd never seen before and probably won't seen again.

"He actually scored from a bullet header that was outside the box. I remember it well because it was me who crossed it!

"He was a fantastic person, a fantastic team-mate and a 'godfather' to all us younger players.

"This one was for you, Bobby. Rest in peace."
