McCALL EXPLAINS VUCKIC ABSENCE

27 December 2016

Bantams boss Stuart McCall says Haris Vuckic missed Monday's festive fixture with Scunthorpe United because he felt the loanee attacker wasn't quite ready for a return following a recent minor operation.

Vuckic wasn't named among City's substitutes for the visit of the league leaders to the Northern Commercials Stadium on Boxing Day, with McCall revealing post-match that the Slovenian had missed some training in the build up to the match due to the op.

The 24 year-old is now back in full training, however, and could feature in some part of City's quick-fire double-header against Bury and Northampton Town over the New Year's weekend.

Speaking after the goalless draw with Scunthorpe, McCall said: "He (Haris Vuckic) had a minor operation at the beginning of last week and missed three days' training.

"I just felt that to bring him potentially into a game like this one (Scunthorpe), when it was always going to be high octane and fast paced, might not be the best for him.

"Scunthorpe are a very powerful and hard-working side, and they don't give you any time on the ball.

"It was no major reason to leave him out though, it was just a case of him missing those days in training."
