City set for first Ireland match

16 July 2013

City will take part in the first of two friendlies during their stay in Ireland this Tuesday evening when they travel to Airtricity First Division side Athlone Town.

The game will be the Bantams' second friendly fixture in total this pre-season following last Saturday's 4-0 win over Blue Square Bet North side Guiseley AFC.

Having largely given his squad 45 minutes each against Guiseley, Bantams boss Phil Parkinson says he intends to give his starting eleven this Tuesday evening an hour or so before then making changes from the bench.

Parkinson will then flip the side around to give the vast majority of the group who don't start tonight sixty minutes or so in City's other Irish fixture against Bohemians on Saturday.

After missing out on the Guiseley win due to minor knocks, both Gary Jones and Mark Yeates are expected to start at Athlone Town Stadium.

The Bantams could also have a couple of trialists in their ranks for the game.

Despite taking part in most of this Tuesday morning's training session, Andrew Davies isn't likely to feature against Athlone, certainly not from the very start at least. Davies' defensive partner Luke Oliver will definitely not play as he continues to work on building up back his fitness levels following his well-documented recent injury problems.

Opponents Athlone, who have former Bantams midfielder James O'Brien in their ranks, currently sit second in the Airtricity First Division.

The admission prices for City's first friendly in Ireland at Athlone will be:

Adults: €10.00

Senior Citizens/Students: €5.00

Juniors under 14: FREE*

Kick off at Athlone will be 7:45pm.
