A much-changed City side narrowly lost out in their West Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield Town this Tuesday evening, ending their time in the Capital One Cup at the first round stage in the process.

Phil Parkinson’s team, featuring as many as seven alterations from the eleven that started at Bristol City on Saturday, found themselves two down going into the tie’s final stages thanks to a goal in each half by James Vaughan.

Substitute Nahki Wells gave City a lifeline on the stroke of ninety minutes though when he rattled in a fine drive from just outside the area.

Roared on by nearly 4,000 away supporters, City threw everything at Huddersfield’s goal in the two minutes of injury time that followed but they couldn’t quite keep their interest in the competition going past the first round despite a couple of late corners.

While the defeat obviously means a repeat of last season’s amazing achievement of reaching the grand final is now unachievable, Parkinson can still find plenty of reasons to be positive considering the changes he made for the tie and the calibre of the opposition City were up against.

One of the changes made by Parkinson saw defender Matt Taylor make his debut at centre half, while Raffaele De Vita and Jason Kennedy were both handed their first starts in City colours at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Clayton is booked for catching Meredith just inside Huddersfield’s half over by the far touchline.YELLOW CARD90+2min:

There will be two minutes of time added on at the end of the match.90min:

Wells gives City a late lifeline! A long kick forward from McLaughlin eventually falls into the path of Wells and the Bermudian catches out Smithies with a fine early strike into the bottom corner from around 20 yards out.90min: GOAL!!!! Huddersfield Town 2 Bradford City 1 –

87min:Reid finds Hanson inside the area with a cross but the striker’s free header from around fourteen yards lacks any sort of pace to trouble Smithies.

84min: SUB –Huddersfield bring on Murray Wallace for Gerrard.

84min: Jake Carroll tries his luck from distance but his swerving effort fizzes a few yards over.

Hanson stretches to reach Reid’s searching cross into the area but he can only fire high and wide from around eight yards out after sticking out a leg.80min:

79min:Thompson tries to sneak in onto Meredith’s flighted cross to the far post but he can’t quite get his connection right and the ball squirms past him.

67min: Clayton turns away from Ricky Ravenhill but his rising drive from just outside the area sails a yard or so over the bar.

63min: SUBS - City make three substitutions of their own. Nahki Wells, James Hanson and James Meredith are brought on for De Vita, Connell and Taylor respectively. The changes also mean Thompson will move to the right wing and McHugh will partner Doyle in central defence.

63min: SUB - Huddersfield bring on Jonathan Stead for Vaughan.

60min: Reid fires a yard or so over the bar with a direct from free-kick from just outside the area.

56min: Paterson looks to be in with a clear sight on McLaughlin's goal for a second when he loops Vaughan's headed flick on over the head of Darby to get goal-side of the defender. The City right back recovers his ground well though and just does enough to prevent the former Burnley striker from getting in a clean strike on goal.

55min: .Thompson's drive for goal from just inside the area is well-struck but Smithies is able to gather at the second attempt

The hosts double their lead when Vaughan rises highest to head home Hammill's searching cross.54min: GOAL - Huddersfield Town 2 Bradford City 0 -

46min: The Bantams kick off the second period. They will attack towards their 4,000 supporters in the away end behind the goal this half.

HT SUB - Huddersfield bring on Adam Hammill for Hunt.

HT: Huddersfield Town 1 Bradford City 0
45min: There will be three minutes of time added on at the end of the first half.
44min: De Vita's corner into the area causes Huddersfield some concern when Smithies falls to punch it away properly. City try to scramble the ball back towards Smithies goal but Huddersfield can eventually clear their lines.
42min: GOAL - Huddersfield Town 1 Bradford City 0 - Despite Darby's fine defensive duties seconds earlier, City can't hang on for too much longer as Vaughan fires a low drive from around 20 yards out past McLaughlin's dive to give the hosts the lead.
41min: CHANCE - Stephen Darby has to be in right place to kick clear off his own line after Clayton had turned away from the advances of a couple of City defenders before firing in a low drive from around eight yards out.
40min: Jonathan Hogg takes aim from all of 25 yards out before firing in a low drive that whistles narrowly past McLaughlin's goal and then hits the support post behind the net.
35min: Connell's teasing low cross into the six yard box has to be cut out by the unlikely figure of Vaughan in the middle with Thompson looking to pounce if he can behind him.
33min: Norwood's angled ball into the area finds the lurking Paterson but his glancing header from around ten yards out lacks the power and pace to overly-concern McLaughlin, who gathers with relative ease.
30min: A Norwood corner on the half hour mark causes a moment of concern in the City area. Vaughan tries to head the initial set-piece for goal but his effort is blocked. Clayton then tries his luck from the edge of the area but his shot is also cut out, this time by the diving frame of Connell. Hunt looks to make it third time lucky for the hosts but his drive from outside the area sails well wide of the target.
27min: Anthony Gerrard glances a header a few yards wide of goal following Norwood's corner.
26min: Adam Clayton tries to turn into shooting space after picking up Hunt's low cross into the area but his eventual shot on goal is deflected wide of McLaughlin's top corner by the frame of Carl McHugh.
19min: Raffaele De Vita pulls away to the far post to connect with Kyel Reid's flight corner but the Italian's downward header lacks the power to trouble Smithies, who comfortably drops himself on the ball.
16min: After being played into space down City's right flank by Alan Connell, Garry Thompson surges into the Huddersfield box before sliding the ball across the six yard box. The ball is on a plate for any City player looking for a simple tap-in but, sadly for the Bantams, there is no-one within touching distance in the middle.
15min: Martin Paterson spins away from Nathan Doyle but his curling shot on the turn from just outside the area is straight at McLaughlin.
12min: Joel Lynch heads comfortably wide of the near post following Oliver Norwood's corner.
7min: James Vaughan tries an ambitious bicycle kick inside City's penalty area following Jack Hunt's driven cross into the box. The former Everton striker connects with the ball but his volley sails well wide of Jon McLaughlin's goal.
0min: Huddersfield kick off the West Yorkshire derby.
