Free week is a good thing

3 September 2012

City boss Phil Parkinson says he will be looking to use his side's first free week since the start of the league campaign to right the wrongs from last Saturday's defeat at Rotherham United.

Successive Tuesday night matches - one in the league against Fleetwood Town and one in the cup at Watford - have made for a busy start to the new campaign for Parkinson's men.

The Bantams ended a run of five matches in only fifteen days with a heavy loss at the hands of Steve Evans' Rotherham at the weekend.

As well as working on any issues raised from the Rotherham defeat though, Parkinson says it is key to ensure that all of his squad are raring to go at Accrington after a challenging opening couple of weeks of the season.

"Obviously looking back at Saturday (the Rotherham United match), it is clear that we have some work to do. This free week ahead of us is certainly a good thing," said Parkinson.

"We looked to vulnerable as a team there (Rotherham). We need to be a lot tighter.

"Saturday was a lesson for the players. It showed that the minute you think you're a good team and you stop doing the basics, you get punished.

"Maybe some people got a bit carried away after a couple of recent wins, but we still have a lot of hard work to do.

"There are some players like Gary Jones, who have played a lot of football recently and will need some time spent this week to recover a bit.

"There are others though who need a bit of work. We have a reserve (friendly) game at Sheffield Wednesday this week and we'll be looking at a few in that one.

"We need to make sure we get it all right this week to ensure that we are physically firing on all cylinders for a tough game at Accrington at the weekend."
