Jones 'not too far off'

20 October 2012

After Saturday's win over Cheltenham Town, City boss Phil Parkinson revealed that midfielder Gary Jones could be on the verge of making a welcome return to action sooner rather than later.

Jones, a major influence on Parkinson's side since his summer arrival, has been making good progress recently from a troublesome back problem after missing the club's last five matches with the injury.

The 35 year-old could be seen being put through his paces by City coaching staff on the Valley Parade pitch before the Cheltenham fixture, and Parkinson reckons it won't be too long before the all-action competitor is back in the mix.

Parkinson said: "Gary Jones trained today and we had him out on the pitch for an hour or so before the game doing some work with Nick (Allamby) and Steve (Parkin).

"He's looking strong and there's a real smile back on his face.

"I would say he's not too far off from being back in contention.

"I think he is getting very close."
