Huge injury blow for Oliver

30 October 2012

City defender Luke Oliver has been dealt a massive injury blow with the news that his season is effectively over already.

Already thinking the worst, City's fears were confirmed yesterday evening when they were told that Oliver had ruptured his achilles tendon and would be sidelined for anything between six to nine months.

The giant defender, last season's Player of the Year, has already had an operation on the injury he picked up during last Saturday's match at Burton Albion this Tuesday morning.

Fellow defender Andrew Davies, who also suffered an injury at Burton, is to set for further checks on his knee problem but the club are hopeful that his own issue shouldn't be too severe.

Parkinson said: "Unfortunately, as we feared, Luke has indeed ruptured his left achilles tendon."

"Our medical team thought as much after the (Burton) match and now it has been confirmed.

"Luke has already had the injury operated on this (Tuesday) morning but we've been told he faces six to nine months out of action.

"With Andrew, he's having further tests today and we should know more about his exact problem tomorrow (Wednesday)."

The depressing news regarding Oliver means Parkinson is now likely to try and move back into the loan market to bring in defensive reinforcements.
