Parkinson plays the numbers game

3 August 2012

On the eve of City's penultimate friendly of the summer, Bantams boss Phil Parkinson has revealed he is still looking for three further players to bolster his squad ahead of the big kick off this month.

Including striking recruit Alan Connell, City currently have eighteen players within their first-team ranks as the new npower League 2 draws ever nearer.

While happy with the quality of the signings he has brought into the club over the summer, Parkinson knows he still needs more depth.

City entertain League 1 Bury at Valley Parade tomorrow (Saturday) before travelling to Notts County for their Capital One Cup Round One tie at Meadow Lane a week later.

Parkinson's men then kick off their league campaign at Gillingham seven days after that.

Speaking after hearing about the serious knee injury for midfielder Ricky Ravenhill, Parkinson said: "We've obviously got Gary Jones and Ritchie Jones who can give us something in midfield. James Meredith can also play there, he has done that plenty of times for York in the past.

"He's a good midfield player, so we do have cover in there for Ricky.

"But if we move James into midfield then it leaves us short at left back, an area which is already slightly open for us.

"Young Fazz (second year apprentice Forrayah Bass) has done well in that left-back position, however, recently and we'll probably have another look at him tomorrow against Bury.

"We have trialists coming in this week and next week. There are still plenty of good players looking around for clubs at this time of year.

"We are in a good position with the eighteen players we have in our squad but I'd be more happy if we can get that number up to twenty-one."
