WOMEN IN EMPHATIC VICTORY

15 February 2022

Bradford City Women recorded a comprehensive victory at the Mitton Group Stadium last Thursday, beating FC United of Manchester 3-0.

A double from Charlotte Stuart and a second-half strike from Amy Beck wrapped up the points for Chris Hames' side, who now face back-to-back fixtures against local rivals Leeds United.

The hosts got off to a flying start in the freezing wind, when just four minutes in Stuart raced through on goal and found a way past the FC stopper.

Just a few minutes later, the Bantams had doubled their advantage in the FA Women's National League North Division One clash.

Vice captain Monika Stube's neat footwork created space for Charlotte Gill, who moved the ball on for Stuart to convert her and her side's second of the evening.

City survived a few scares to make it to the break with a two-goal advantage, seeing the ball cannon off their crossbar from a free-kick shortly after establishing the cushion.

Hames' ladies came back out from the break with their tails up, however, and added a third shortly after the restart.

Beck collected possession and charged through the visiting defence, before unleashing a strike which found the top-right corner with aplomb.

FC United pushed hard for a way back into the game, again rattling the woodwork and calling City goalkeeper Skye Kirkham into action.

City's offside trap proved effective, though, and they proved able to hold on for three goals, three points and a clean sheet.

Bradford City Women travel to Leeds United in the County Cup on Sunday (February 20), before another trip to the same opponent in league action next Thursday (February 24).
