WOMEN BEATEN ON OPENING DAY

21 September 2020

Bradford City Women proved unable to kick off their 2020/21 campaign with victory, suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chester-le-Street Town.

With the game being an affair where both defences cancelled each other out, a 25-yard free-kick in the 35th minute was the only goal to separate the two sides.

The Bantams started the game brightly with Harriet Jakeman and Sophie Hawkins both creating chances.

However, Town kept City at bay as both opportunities were squandered.

Despite the attacking promise, Chris Hames’ side saw themselves 1-0 down - 10 minutes before the interval.

After winning a set-piece on the edge of the area, Sarah Burn stepped up and hit the ball into the top corner.

City tried to make amends in the second half but neither side could conjure chances as the visitors walked away with all three points.

The Bantams’ next FA Women's National League Division One North encounter will come on the road at Newcastle United - next Sunday (September 27).
