McCALL EXPECTING FOREST GREEN REACTION

19 September 2020

Stuart McCall is looking for a positive reaction from his players when they take on Forest Green Rovers this afternoon (3.00pm).

The Bantams boss was left frustrated by a "cheap" defensive performance in midweek, as his side exited the Carabao Cup.

However McCall claims he has seen a forward-thinking mindset throughout his side in training, ahead of their first-ever visit to The New Lawn.

He said: "We need to be upbeat every time we step on the grass - win, lose or draw. The mood in camp has to be positive and there have been encouraging signs since Tuesday.

"I have to be open and honest. We lost five goals the other night and that is something you cannot hide from. The players have to be stronger and win their individual battles.

"The most disappointing thing the other night was the desire the lads did not, show compared to Lincoln - especially from set pieces.

"Overall however, Tuesday is in the past and we now want to make sure certain things do not happen again.

"We move forward with a positive mindset and are looking forward to the Forest Green match."

McCall has identified the encounter as an important step in the process of seeing supporters return to football matches - with it being chosen as an official EFL pilot fixture.

The former Scotland international is excited for the challenges his side will face in Gloucestershire, and is aware of the threat they pose.

The City chief added: "It will be a difficult game. Forest Green have brought players in - as a lot of sides have - and we know what to expect.

"They started very well last season and just slipped outside of the play-offs before the curtailment.

"It is our fifth game in two weeks and so, naturally, we are considering changing things in terms of personnel.

"The game will be a great stepping stone towards normality, with there being some sort of crowd in the stadium.

"It is another step towards having our supporters back at Valley Parade. As soon as that happens, the better."
