FRENCH DESPERATE FOR WINNING START

11 September 2020

Tyler French is looking to get off to a winning start in Sky Bet League Two, when the Bantams entertain Colchester United tomorrow (3.00pm).

The 21-year-old was deployed at right-wing-back and voted man of the match in City’s 2-1 win against Bolton Wanderers last weekend.

The defender has relished the challenge of playing in a more advanced position, and is grateful for the faith shown in him by Stuart McCall.

“I could not have asked for a much better first game of the season,” said French.

“Playing at wing-back has been different but I have enjoyed it.

“The gaffer gave me a chance and I am glad I could have repaid him.

”I will give my all whenever I am on the field to repay the trust he has shown in me.

“The position enables me to get on the ball a lot and move forward more.

“It was nice to have played well and be voted man of the match, but I do not get ahead of myself.

“As a group, we need to take it game by game and day to day in training.”

French insists there is a positive feeling amongst the squad and, despite no supporters being able to be in attendance, is excited to get the league campaign underway.

The former non-league defender added: “We are looking forward to cracking on with the league and are all raring to go and looking forward to it.

“It has been different with no fans and a strange pre-season, but training has been great.

“There is a real togetherness and we are all working very hard.

“The gaffer has instilled a positive feeling amongst the lads - everyone knows their jobs and the demands.

“The bare minimum is to work at 110% and we all know how the gaffer wants to play.

“The City supporters are outstanding so, of course, it is difficult without them.

“However, the motivation remains the same and we want to please the fans whether they are supporting in the stadium or at home.

“We know what we want to achieve as club and are working hard every day to reach our goals.”
