Clayton Donaldson lauded a "well-deserved" City victory after he and his team-mates overcame Mansfield Town 3-1 at the One Call Stadium.

The forward struck in the 69th minute to wrap up the points for Stuart McCall's men, as they left Nottinghamshire with their first away victory of the 2020/21 Sky Bet League Two season.

The Bradford-born frontman admitted his delight after helping his side towards the three points.

He stated: "The win was great and, with it being our first away victory of the league season, it was pleasing to break that duck.

"We played some good football throughout and I thought we definitely deserved it.

"To get an away win so early on in the season will stand us in good stead going forward, because our away form was one of our biggest downfalls last year.

"Scoring three goals away from home is brilliant. It was disappointing to concede near the end of the game, but we will take the result.

"For me to get my first goal of the league season is another key factor for myself. I am definitely happy with it and pleased to have helped the team win."

Donaldson was also pleased to see the style of football Stuart McCall is attempting to adopt become clear against the Stags.

He feels City will take confidence from the manner of the triumph and use it to their advantage over their coming fixtures.

The Jamaican international added: "The game was a great example of how we wanted to play.

"We want to play good football and some of the build-up and the play which we showed is demonstrations of what we are about.

"We work on it a lot on the training pitch so to get goals from it was the icing on the cake.

"The three points were the main objective for the day and we got them, so it will definitely give the boys confidence.

"We are always looking forward to the next game and with everybody's confidence being high, we will want to play the next game as quickly as possible.

"To have another game on Tuesday is great and I think everybody will be buzzing going into that game. If we can get another win, it will feel even better.

"With us going into the run of games we have, coming off the back of a win is massive."
