CLARKE LOOKING FOR 'TOUGHER' BANTAMS

30 October 2020

Billy Clarke hopes to see a stronger, more resilient City side when the Bantams travel to Barrow tomorrow (3.00pm).

The forward admitted both he and his team-mates were hurting after the midweek defeat to Bolton Wanderers - in which he missed a penalty - but insists the mood remains positive.

Clarke admitted everyone is aware of where Stuart McCall's side must improve, and is determined to show a reaction in Cumbria.

“We are inconsistent at the moment and need to be a lot better with that,” he said.

“From top to bottom, we need to be tougher to play against.

“The goals we have been conceding have not been good enough, and we have been very easy to score against - which we have not been happy with.

“We want to make sure that if teams are to score against us, then they need to have earned it.

“The mood is okay. We have moved on well and just have to remain upbeat and take the positives from what has happened so far.

“It all stems from hard work. We are a good, honest group of lads and there are no bad eggs.

“We all hurt deeply when we lose games and all we can do is give everything to try and put our results right.”

The Irishman reiterated that, while results of late have proved disappointing, the squad still remains focussed on its ambitions for the season.

He expects Barrow to provide another difficult test, but knows it is one City must overcome to remain on track to achieve what they desire.

Clarke added: “We still have the same goals we did at the start of the season.”

“We have had blips, but in terms of general play, we have progressed well.

“We can take 90% of Tuesday’s game into the future and try to replicate it to get better.

“There are a lot of games and so many chances to turn a down mood into a positive environment quickly - so there is a big opportunity to build that consistency.

“We will not be taking any team lightly and will go out there the same way we try to do every week, with the same mentality.

“Barrow picked up a good win over Mansfield in midweek and have some talented players.

“We have to take the positives and form from the last 45 minutes against Bolton and try to get back to winning ways.”
