Richard O'Donnell confessed he and his team-mates are "desperate" to progress to the third round of the Emirates FA Cup - ahead of this afternoon's meeting with Oldham Athletic.

The Bantams booked their place in round two with a clinical 7-0 victory over Tonbridge Angels earlier this month.

The City skipper is hoping for a similar outcome this time round, in what he regards a memorable competition.

“I love the FA Cup,” O'Donnell said.

“It was great to go to Tonbridge Angels in the first round and this is another game we are really looking forward to.

“The FA Cup is a brilliant competition which every footballer relishes playing in.

“We still do not want to take our eyes off the league, but are certainly desperate to get through to the next round.”

The Bantams goalkeeper insists there is a positive mood in the camp - after manager Stuart McCall penned a new one-year contract extension.

The 32-year-old feels a common focus and drive among the group, as McCall and his side continue to prepare for the long-term future.

He added: “There has been lots of news this week, but the main piece from our point of view is the manager staying on - which is great news.

“He has been brilliant for the football club and all us players know where we lie, now.

“It is a group which is wanting to learn and desperate to keep improving. We are all going out on a Saturday to give everything we can to try and win games of football.

“We know we cannot have any more performances like the Salford one. We were improved on Tuesday, but we know we need to start winning games.”
