BLACK ‘BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED’ WITH CUP EXIT

Assistant manager Kenny Black felt a 2-1 scoreline “flattered” the Bantams - as they bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup with a 2-1 defeat to Oldham Athletic.

City took the lead early on at the Utilita Energy Stadium but exited the competition after being downed by two long-range strikes.

Black was “bitterly disappointed” with the result, but felt City did not do themselves any favours.

He said: “We are all bitterly disappointed with the result but, to be perfectly honest - after a decent start, and going 1-0 in front - I thought the final score of 2-1 unfortunately flattered ourselves.

“They had numerous chances and we were probably lucky to come in 1-1 at half-time.

“We certainly did lose our way. I felt that, on the basis of play, we were really, really poor - in the possession of the ball.

“They won 2-1 but they had numerous opportunities to add to that scoreline.

“A lot of the chances they did have were due to us giving the ball away in key areas of the pitch, which was disappointing.

“We were the creators of our own downfall and conceded too many chances.”

While being disheartened by the general performance, Black also bemoaned City’s inability to hold onto the early lead they had taken.

He maintains optimism ahead of what he feels is an important run of fixtures, in which his side look to bounce back.

The former Scotland midfielder added: “We got off to a good start and looked to try and build on that with a second goal - which we were sadly unable to do.

“They were a team coming off the back of some good away performances, and playing with a lot of confidence.

“The players are doing all they can. There are just certain things which are not falling for us at the minute, and we have obviously been caused our own issues.

“We have all got to stick together as a group and do all we can to turn our fortunes.

“We have got Saturday and Tuesday games coming up and two very important league matches coming up at home.”
