OPPOSITION GUIDE: SALFORD CITY

6 March 2020

City will look to record consecutive victories tomorrow, making their first trip to the Peninsula Stadium in history to face Salford City (3.00pm).

The Ammies currently sit one place and seven points behind the Bantams in 10th - in what is their first-ever season in Sky Bet League Two.

We have compiled an Opposition Guide, packed full of detailed information on tomorrow’s hosts...

JANUARY TRANSFER ACTIVITY

The Peninsula Stadium outfit spent January once again strengthening their squad, with 8 additions and a further three departures.

Ins: Ashley Hunter (Fleetwood Town, loan), Bruno Andrade (Lincoln City), Tom Elliott (Millwall), Michael O'Connor (Lincoln City), George Tanner (Manchester United, loan), Darron Gibson (unassigned), Ashley Eastham (Fleetwood Town), James Wilson (Aberdeen).

Outs: Jake Beesley (Solihull Moors), Tom Walker (AFC Fylde), Lois Maynard (Stockport County), Liam Hogan (Stockport County).

ONES TO WATCH

James Wilson:

An experienced operator, Salford signed Wilson during the January transfer window from Scottish side Aberdeen.

The former England youth international is a product of Manchester United's academy, where he scored two goals on his full senior debut as an 18-year-old in 2014.

Ashley Hunter:

Another of the Ammies' January acquisitions, Hunter signed on loan from Fleetwood Town until the end of the season.

Having spent his youth career at the likes of Aston Villa and Derby County, the forward has scored 38 goals in 216 appearances for the Cod Army and has three goals in 10 Salford appearances.

Richie Towell:

Towell, 28, is in his first season at the Peninsula Stadium, having signed a two-year deal in May.

Having graduated from Celtic's academy, the former Irish youth international spent two successful loan spells at Rotherham United from Brighton and Hove Albion, from where he signed for the Ammies.

Jake Jervis:

Towering striker Jervis is on loan at Salford from Luton Town, following a spell at AFC Wimbledon last season.

The 28-year-old carries a wealth of EFL experience, having represented the likes of Birmingham City and Portsmouth, before appearing 127 times for Plymouth Argyle.

THE MANAGER

At 48 years old, Graham Alexander already carries a wealth of managerial experience in the EFL.

He began his career in the dugout as caretaker manager of Preston North End. He then spent three years at Fleetwood Town and two years at Scunthorpe United, before joining the Ammies in 2018.

As a player, the former defender/midfielder made over 1,000 senior appearances for Preston, Scunthorpe, Luton Town and Burnley, in addition to representing the Scotland national side on 40 occassions.

THE CAPTAIN

Experienced defender Nathan Pond is in his second season at Salford, having gained promotion from the National League with them last term.

The 35-year-old spent 15 successful years at Fleetwood Town, gaining promotion from the Northern Premier League in 2008 all the way up to Sky Bet League One, six years later.

The Preston-born man - who began his career at Lancaster City - has four caps and one goal for the Montserrat national side.

The Ammies returned to winning ways last weekend, with a convincing 2-0 victory at Macclesfield Town.
