McCALL PLEASED WITH HOW RECRUITMENT SHAPING UP

23 July 2020

Stuart McCall is pleased with how City’s summer recruitment drive is developing, ahead of his side’s imminent return to training.

The Bantams have so far made three summer signings, in addition to securing a two-year contract extension for Richard O’Donnell and one-year professional deals for four academy graduates.

And, with McCall’s men set to commence pre-season training next week, the former Scotland international feels preparations are moving in the right direction.

He said: “We are pleased with the business we have done so far.

“I was glad to have been able to re-sign Richard and Dylan Mottley-Henry - both of whom we were very keen to keep.

“We have brought Levi Sutton and Billy Clarke in, which gives us a good blend of experience and matches, and young and upcoming hunger.

“That takes us up to a squad of 22, including the four young boys we are bringing up. Then, there will still obviously be some more additions before the start of the season.”

While making the necessary adjustments to his playing squad, McCall has been careful not to be distracted by the activity of other sides in Sky Bet League Two.

He feels each team’s needs are different to one another and is solely focused on the changes he wishes to make at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

The City boss added: “We have got to be careful. It is not about comparing ourselves to everyone else. Mansfield have made a fair few signings - and so have Bolton”.

“It is not about rushing into the market, the important thing is getting the right players.

“We are happy with who we have brought in and there is obviously scope to add more.

“I am still looking at a few different positions, but it is good to have got the lads who we have in.”

The Bantams will commence pre-season training ahead of the 2020/21 campaign next Thursday (July 30).
