BOWYER PRAISES ‘DESERVED’ POINT

Gary Bowyer was pleased to have left league-leaders Swindon Town with a “deserved” point, following a 1-1 draw at The Energy Check County Ground.

The Bantams battled until the end of the encounter, equalising through a Shay McCartan free-kick in the 88th-minute.

After a strong performance, Bowyer believes his side were well-worth the result, and was delighted with his side’s display.

He said: “A point was the least we deserved, especially based on our second-half showing.

“To come to the league leaders who are a very good, well-coached side and leave with a point is very positive.

“We gave them a headstart with the penalty but reacted really well by creating chances and never giving in.

“We were disappointed to not be going in level at half-time but knew we had not played as well as we could do.

“In the second half, we showed how well we can play and ended up with over 60 per-cent possession. It was a fantastic effort from the boys, who are fighting very hard for the club.”

The trip to Wiltshire saw another slight change in system, which was again altered on the back of substitutions made - during the game.

Bowyer insists the way his players dealt with the adversity was admirable and lauded their character and attitude.

The Bantams boss added: “To the lads’ credit, whichever scenario and system they have been placed in, they have adapted to brilliantly.

“Whatever formation we have set up in, the players have got on with it and shown a lot of fight and spirit.

“We went to Swindon and showed a lot of character, as well as putting in a good performance. I am very happy with that.

“We can take a lot of confidence from the game and have to try and build on our good recent form, now.”
