BOWYER LOOKING FOR REACTION AT HOME TO SCUNTHORPE

Gary Bowyer insists his players must respond to a disappointing showing against Crawley Town - when entertaining Scunthorpe United tomorrow.

City’s eight-game unbeaten run was ended at The People’s Pension Stadium where Bowyer’s men suffered a 2-1 defeat.

The Bantams boss is looking for a reaction from his players when back out on home soil (3.00pm).

Bowyer said: “Our performance was behind the result, last Saturday.

“In the first half - in particular - we were too sideways and backwards. We did not test Crawley enough.

“Then, in the second half, we were a little better but did not have enough quality in the final third.

“We have a great group of players to work with because they are very honest.

“I did not have to say anything because they were able to admit where they had gone wrong and where they need to improve.

“It is important we show our progression from the Crawley defeat against Scunthorpe.”

Despite sitting in 15th place in Sky Bet League Two, Bowyer is confident Paul Hurst’s men will provide his side with a tough challenge.

A former team-mate of Bowyer’s, the City chief believes the former Shrewsbury Town manager is doing a good job in Lincolnshire and is looking forward to welcoming the Iron.

He added: “I played with Hursty at Rotherham and have obviously followed his managerial career.

“He did a great job at Grimsby and then at Shrewsbury. In my opinion, he was harshly treated at Ipswich, making so much investment before losing his job.

“He has shown what a quality manager he is and has a big rebuilding job on his hands at Scunthorpe.

“He will be looking at this transfer window to further help Scunthorpe’s progress.

“They did not start the season off great, but have some good players and will provide a big test for us.”
