BANTAMS BATTLE TO COLCHESTER POINT

21 January 2020

City picked up their second point in four days with a battling 0-0 draw at Colchester United.

The encounter was a hard-fought midfield battle with the two sides exchanging chances at the JobServe Community Stadium.

It was the hosts who created the first chance of the match - 7 minutes in.

Callum Harriott found himself free on the left-hand side before flashing a delivery across for Theo Robinson.

The attacker burst into the box but was unable to put anything on the end of it as the ball floated wide.

As the second period progressed, the U’s worked Luke McGee once more - in the 70th minute.

Second-half substitute Courtney Senior worked space outside the box before lashing a shot goalward, forcing a good save out of the City stopper.

Despite the scare, Gary Bowyer’s Bantams constructed their best chance of the game - through Chris Taylor.

The midfielder unleashed a rasping half-volley from outside the area after a cushioned chest lay-off from Eoin Doyle.

The shot rose and rattled the bar but came to no avail as the ball flew out of play - with 14 minutes left.

John McGreal’s men returned the favour, as Harry Pell also smacked the bar - five minutes later.

Both sides attempted to snatch victory late on but could not draw first blood, as the two teams settled for a point.
