McCALL MAKES CITY RETURN

4 February 2020

Bradford City is delighted to announce the appointment of Stuart McCall as the club’s new manager.

McCall - who returns for his third stint at the helm - has put pen to paper on a deal which will see him remain at the Utilita Energy Stadium until at least the end of next season.

The 55-year-old, taking over following Gary Bowyer’s departure yesterday, brings long-term assistant Kenny Black back to West Yorkshire with him.

The former Scotland international, who also enjoyed two separate playing spells as a Bantam, guided City to the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final during his time as manager, in 2017.

McCall is thrilled to be back at the club and is relishing the weeks and months ahead.

He said: “I am naturally delighted to be here again and am fully focussed on the 15 games we have left to play.

“It is always difficult taking over from a manager who has lost his job, so I feel for Gary (Bowyer). But, when Julian (Rhodes) contacted me, I was desperate to return.

“We have to assess the squad very quickly and get ready for the remainder of the season. I obviously know a few of the players from my previous spell here, so am looking forward to the challenge.

“The club is a huge one in this division and, with everything still to play for, the job is to try and get us back to where we should be.

“We are going to get our heads down, work as hard as we can and, hopefully, get the best out of what is a strong squad.

“I cannot wait to get on the training pitch with the lads and am really excited to be back in and around the place - ahead of this weekend’s game against Grimsby.”

McCall and Black will be in the home dugout when City host the Mariners, on Saturday (3.00pm). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
