BIG MATCH PREVIEW: CITY v GRIMSBY

7 February 2020

The Bantams return to action at the Utilita Energy Stadium tomorrow, hosting Grimsby Town.

'New' manager Stuart McCall and assistant Kenny Black will be in the dugout for the first time since returning on Tuesday.

The visiting Mariners currently sit 17th in Sky Bet League Two - following a revival under new manager Ian Holloway.

We have compiled a Big Match Preview full of in-depth pre-match analysis - ahead of the encounter.

TEAM NEWS

City: New signings Lee Novak and Kurtis Guthrie could make their City debuts in Stuary McCall's first game back as manager, having been ineligible for last week's trip to Oldham Athletic.

Dylan Mottley-Henry could also make his full debut for McCall's men, having come off the bench at Boundary Park.

Jamie Devitt will again be available after serving his one-match suspension, while Kelvin Mellor should remain sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Grimsby: Former Bantams Billy Clarke, who recently signed for the Mariners, and James Hanson - who netted in the return fixture - are expected to start up front for Saturday's visitors.

Luke Hendrie, who also represented City during McCall's previous spell as manager, should also feature, having been a mainstay at left-back for Grimsby this season.

Forward Ahkeem Rose could return from injury - having recently returned to training.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAID

Stuart McCall: “We know Grimsby have big James Hanson and Billy Clarke up front, who we all know very well, at this club.

“They recorded a good 2-2 draw last Saturday against Forest Green Rovers and have done really well since Ian Holloway was appointed.

“They have been re-energised and re-vitalised, so it should be a really good game. They are going to be bringing close to 3,000 supporters, so it should be a brilliant atmosphere.

“We will be aware of where Grimsby’s strengths lie but, as with any game, we have to look at ourselves and what we can do to impose ourselves on them."

Ian Holloway: “The good news for me is that Stuart is not going to be able to play because he was a terrific player, and he is retired now!

"He’s only had a few days to go in and try make a difference.

“Bradford are nothing to do with us. They have got to go about being Bradford, and we have got to go about being Grimsby Town.

“It’s all about us trying to impose our game on theirs, and let’s see who can come out the best."

LAST TIME OUT

The return fixture came in August - on matchday two - at the beginning of the season.

The Bantams picked up their first point of the campaign at Blundell Park after James Vaughan's opener was cancelled out by former Bantam James Hanson.
