TRUEMAN PRAISES ‘DISCIPLINED’ BANTAMS

26 December 2020

Mark Trueman leapt to praise a “disciplined” performance from his side - after they secured their third-consecutive victory at Tranmere Rovers.

The Bantams triumphed 1-0 at Preston Park thanks to Lee Novak’s 62nd-minute header and another gritty defensive effort.

Trueman was once again pleased with the determination on show from City, who remain 18th in the Sky Bet League Two table.

He said: “It was a very disciplined performance. Credit where it is due, Tranmere were very good and caused us a lot of tactical problems.

“Once we had settled into the game, we were hard to beat and showed a lot of unity within our group again, which was great to see.”

“Lee Novak scored a great goal at the right time which allowed us to see the game out. Overall, it was a very pleasing performance.

“We had to deal with a lot of threats which they presented and I thought our work rate and intensity - in and out of possession - was up to the standards we set.”

Despite being satisfied with another strong performance, Trueman has called for his players not to rest on their laurels and keep improving.

He is keen to see more development in performances and results ahead of consecutive home meetings with Port Vale and Morecambe.

“We just need to keep improving and pushing ourselves to get better,” Trueman added.

“The players have really bought in to what we are trying to implement and it is important for us to keep that up.

“The games we are winning are breeding confidence and we are applying ourselves well and playing with determination and grittiness, but also creating chances and hurting teams going forward.

“We will not let our standards drop or change the way we have been doing things, because it has brought us success up to this point.”
