TRUEMAN PLEASED WITH ‘UGLY’ WIN

23 December 2020

Mark Trueman was delighted with the Bantams’ ability to battle for another three points - after a 2-1 victory at Grimsby Town.

City took a 2-1 lead into the half-time break at Blundell Park, though were made to dig their heels in to take all three points after a Grimsby fightback in the second period.

Trueman was pleased with the way his side demonstrated the “ugly” side of the game to come away victorious.

He said: “We showed that, even though we did not play the greatest, we can still get results. It was a big three points.

“It is always a good sign when your team is winning games, when you perhaps are not the better side.

“We are all delighted to have shown that other side to our game - where we can play ugly and still come away with the win.”

“It probably was not one of our better performances, but we showed the gritty side to our game and came away with the points - which was the main thing.”

Trueman was even more pleased when considering the two goals the Bantams netted, and the way the players defended their lead.

Lee Novak and Levi Sutton both scored Goal of the Month contenders at Blundell Park, and Trueman insists confidence within the camp is high.

He added: “Grimsby are a good side and it was a game which needed a bit of quality to be won.

“The two goals we scored were fantastic. I could not choose which was the best between them.

“It was important for us to take the lead, but then even more important for us to look after that lead, defend our goal and work collectively as a team again.”

“We do not have to say too much to the players to motivate them. We knew they had it in them and we kept the team the same with that in mind.

“While me and Conor are here, all we have to focus on is getting as many results as we can - so it is good for us to be winning games as we are at the moment.”

The Bantams look to record three-consecutive victories when travelling to Tranmere Rovers on Boxing Day (December 26). CLICK HERE to purchase an iFollow video match pass.
