TRUEMAN DELIGHTED WITH ‘FANTASTIC’ BANTAMS

19 December 2020

Mark Trueman praised a “fantastic” performance from his City side - after they returned to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph over Cambridge United.

The Bantams defended heroically against the play-off-chasing U’s at the Utilita Energy Stadium, to hand Trueman and Conor Sellars their first three points while in caretaker charge.

Trueman was buoyed by City’s defensive endeavour and resilience, as they held onto their one-goal advantage.

He said: “We were fantastic. We asked for a disciplined performance and the work we have been doing all week showed.

“We improved upon our performance at Crawley. The desire to defend our box was what we wanted right from the start - and it allowed us to build from there.

“We knew we needed to stop conceding goals, and that is what we have done. With the way we defended the box, we could have been playing for another 10 minutes and still not conceded.

“In two matches, we have limited to our opponents to only one shot on target, overall. It is a credit to the full team.

“It was another great collective team performance, with how disciplined we were and the way in which we defended our box.”

The Bantams' caretaker boss was also encouraged buy his side’s potency in attack, and how they came forward on the counter.

Harry Pritchard’s sublime 42nd-minute strike proved enough to claim all three points, but Trueman felt there could have been more goals.

He added: “We are always going to create chances, and showed how good we are going forward. It is another foundation to build upon - going into Tuesday’s game.

“As soon as me and Conor walked into the building, we knew - with the players we had - we were always going to create chances.

“We were more disciplined in the second half and knew we always carried a threat on the counter attack.

“We had good chances, including when we hit the post with Cookey, and could have won by more in the end.”
