Lee Novak was delighted with a “massive” three points - after the Bantams battled to 2-1 victory over Grimsby Town - at Blundell Park.

The former Huddersfield Town frontman opened the scoring for City in spectacular fashion in the first half, converting with an overhead kick from Callum Cooke’s cross.

Novak stressed the importance of he and his team-mates keeping up their momentum - after recording back-to-back victories under Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars’ caretaker leadership.

He said: “The victory was a massive one, for us.

“I thought we were quite sloppy in the opening 10 to 15 minutes but, after that, we grew into the game.

“We had to dig in, in the second half, but three points is three points - and we take them no matter how they come.

“We have to win at all costs and put a run of results together which will get us up the table, so long may this continue.”

Novak striker also confessed his joy in playing regularly and scoring goals once more - having been sidelined with injury up until City’s trip to Oldham Athletic.

The Bantams’ top goalscorer missed eight games with a hamstring issue earlier in the campaign, but has two goals in four games since his return - and is enjoying his football.

The 32-year-old striker added: “Being out injured was very frustrating.

“I have come back into the side and, if I can help in any way, then I am happy.

“Scoring goals and working hard for the team is my job.

“I am delighted to have been back amongst the goals and the most important thing is the fact it has resulted in three points.

“As for the goal, I just took it on my chest and went for it, and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

“I have never done it before and probably never will again! It was a special one, for me.”
