HORNBY DISAPPOINTED FOLLOWING PORT VALE DRAW

30 December 2020

Sam Hornby admitted a feeling of frustration, despite helping City stretch their unbeaten run with a 0-0 draw at home to Port Vale.

Hornby made his first league appearance in claret and amber - entering the fray for injured skipper Richard O’Donnell - and kept a clean sheet as the Bantams made it five games without defeat.

The former Valiants goalkeeper was however disappointed at having only taken a point away, which he feels reflects the side’s recent form and mentality.

He said: “There was a bit of disappointment in the dressing room, to be honest, because of the form we are in and the run we have been on.

“It was a difficult night with regards to the pitch and conditions. Port Vale came here with a gameplan to sit in a bit more and let us have the ball, but we just could not find that goal we needed.

“It has been a brilliant reaction from us, since Mark (Trueman) and Conor (Sellars) have come in, and we have really been flying.

“After the games we have played and won, we came into this game really wanting the three points, and that is probably where the disappointment mainly comes from.”

The 25-year-old also spoke of his delight at having made his first league appearance for the club, and helping the Bantams to back-to-back clean sheets.

He praised the way he and his team-mates continue to defend their goal, and suggested their unbeaten run had emerged from these values.

Hornby added: “I have been working hard since coming back off loan last year, and that has probably been noticed by the staff.

“You never like to see anyone get injured, and myself and Richard have a really good working relationship, but hopefully I took my opportunity and am now in the thoughts for the next game.

“It was good to come in and be able to keep a clean sheet. The four in front of me were terrific and lads in front were great, too. We have been defending really well from the front.

“If you cannot win the game - as we were unable to against Port Vale - keeping clean sheets at least mean you do not lose, and we have kept our unbeaten run going.”
