NIGHTINGALE ARRIVES AS ACADEMY HEAD OF COACHING

16 September 2019

Bradford City have appointed Lewis Nightingale as the club's new academy head of coaching.

The 28-year-old has returned for his second spell with the Bantams, after spending five years as City's academy head foundation phase coach - between 2012 and 2017.

Following his first stint in West Yorkshire, Nightingale spent two years in the academy at Premier League side Everton, where he operated as under-14s head coach.

The former Darlington midfielder has expressed his delight in returning to City.

"It is great to be back and I cannot wait for the exciting challenges ahead," said Nightingale.

"I feel I can add real value to the academy set-up in this role in, essentially, trying to get as many players in this academy careers in the professional game, hopefully wearing the Bradford City shirt.

"This club has a history of breeding talented players through the academy and it is my job to keep that run going, as well as creating a pathway for the coaches.

"I hope my past experiences - both here and at Everton - will help raise the standards of the academy across the board, and bode for a successful future."

Nightingale's appointment sees Neil Matthews step into the role of academy manager, on a full-time basis.

The former head of coaching has heaped praise on his successor and has every faith in his ability to guide the club's youth ranks forward into an exciting new era.

Matthews added: "Lewis carries a wealth of experience and a valuable insight into how coaches can best support young footballers' progression.

"He is very focused and driven to make the most of this opportunity and has shown a clear desire to work hard.

"I am confident he will lead an ambitious coaching set-up which is continually striving to improve the standards of our academy."
