BOWYER RUES ‘MISSED OPPORTUNITY’

Gary Bowyer was frustrated to leave the Sands Venue Stadium with just a point - following a 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United.

Despite falling behind in the first half, City dominated large parts of the encounter, creating several chances to claim all three points.

The Bantams boss was disappointed with being made to share the spoils and was adamant his side’s performance deserved more.

He said: "We feel we missed an opportunity, at Scunthorpe.

"We have to give credit to them for the way they defended, towards the end. They are a hard side to break down.

"But we were not ruthless enough in their penalty area. We put a lot of good balls into the box but did not convert our chances well enough.

"We had another fantastic away following and, hopefully, they were able to see it was not for a lack of effort. We are getting closer to the way we want to play.

"It is disappointing to not be able to send them back to Bradford with three points, which we feel we should have done."

One of the afternoon’s positives for Bowyer was seeing Paudie O’Connor net his third goal of the campaign.

The City chief was keen to stress the importance of players in all positions getting on the scoresheet and has been impressed with the return, in recent weeks.

He added: "We have seen, all season, the quality these boys have.

"We do not just rely on our attackers to score, we expect everyone on the pitch to be able to come up with goals.

"Paudie’s effort is very pleasing but we are looking for more goals from all our squad members.

"We defend as a team and attack as a team. With the quality we have and the balls we put into the box, our defenders should be on the scoresheet."

Bowyer’s men return to the Utilita Energy Stadium next Saturday (October 5), hosting high-flying Swindon Town (3.00pm). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
