Gary Bowyer was delighted to see his side emerge victorious with a “deserved” 2-1 win at home to Swindon Town.

After a dominant first-half performance, City then made their pressure pay - after the break - with goals from Hope Akpan and Shay McCartan securing victory.

Bowyer was encouraged by the application and attitude of his players to clinch the points - following the restart.

The Bantams boss said: "We were unlucky in the first half and disappointed not to be ahead.

"Zeli Ismail hit the post, Swindon’s goalkeeper made a couple of good saves and we were wasteful with some our our set plays.

"We wanted to add a little bit more care and quality to our play, in the second half.

"We managed that and found our cutting edge to come away with three points.

"We are delighted with the response and the way the players rallied."

Bowyer’s men were up against a Swindon side who - heading into today’s game - had not lost an away league encounter all season.

The City chief believes this speaks volumes of his players’ endeavour throughout the contest.

He added: "The effort of the players was immense and their intensity was fantastic.

"We were up against a very good Swindon side who, until now, had not won away from home in the league.

"That tells you everything you need to know about how well we did.

"It was never going to be an easy game and we have done magnificently to come away with a win. Overall, we deserved it."

After moving up to 6th in Sky Beat League Two, Bowyer’s men will be backed by a sell-out 1,600-plus away following at Morecambe, next Saturday (October 12).
