Hope Akpan was delighted to have again helped City to victory, following a 2-1 triumph over Morecambe.

The midfielder netted his second goal in as many league matches on the west coast, as the Bantams extended their unbeaten streak to four league matches.

Akpan thanked manager Gary Bowyer for the influence on his game, insisting he is keen to assist the team wherever possible.

The 28-year-old said: "We were all delighted with the win. We knew it was going to be a tough game which makes it even more satisfying.

"I am really happy to have scored another goal and helped the team get the win.

"Getting goals from midfield is really how I started my career and made a name for myself.

"If I can help the side and keep that element in my game, it is only going to be positive and beneficial for everyone.

"I had a conversation with Gary - around a month ago - about what I offer the team and how I can go about bringing that better.

"Ever since then, I have looked at myself differently and tried to apply myself as well as possible in training and matches.

"I am really pleased with how well it has come across - with both the performances and results - so I have the gaffer to thank, for that."

With back-to-back home fixtures against Crawley Town - one of Akpan’s former clubs - and Port Vale now on the horizon, the ex-Blackburn Rovers man is looking to kick on.

The Nigerian international believes the upcoming run of matches could prove a pivotal one come the end of the season, insists the hard work must continue.

Akpan added: "A lot of people would have perhaps expected Morecambe to be a bit of a banana skin, for us, but we knew we had to go there and be solid, which I think we did.

"We raised the intensity in the second half and managed to get the goals to win the game.

"We have two wins on the bounce, now, with two big home games coming up - in quick succession.

"If we do well, we will be in a very healthy position in the league, so that is where our main focus lies.

"We will be working very hard over the coming weeks, as we have been doing up until this point, to make sure we are in the best possible state to do well."

Bowyer’s Bantams host the Red Devils on Saturday October 19 before entertaining Vale three days later (Tuesday October 22). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
