WOMEN LOSE OUT AFTER LEEDS LATE SHOW

4 November 2019

Three second-half goals saw Bradford City Women lose out 4-1 to West Yorkshire rivals Leeds United - on their return to action.

Having not had a game for three weeks - due to waterlogged pitches - the FA Women’s National League Plate fixture was contested on an artificial surface at United’s Thorp Arch training ground.

City were slow to start, with their hosts enjoying most of the early possession, hitting the post from a corner and having an effort well saved by goalkeeper Aimee Routledge.

Leeds did, however, break the deadlock on the half-hour mark when a cross from the right was slotted home, at the far post.

The Bantams did not have to wait long for the Whites to put the ball in the net for a second time only, this time, it was in their own net!

A straight-forward back-pass caught the Leeds keeper unaware and the ball rolled helplessly over the line for a City equaliser.

The visitors started the second half with more purpose, beginning to win more midfield battles.

This did, however, leave gaps at the back, to allow Leeds to score twice in two minutes.

The first of these proved a tap in before, contrastingly, a 25-yard strike skidded in, across the wet surface.

United capped off the scoring with a penalty, 10 minutes later.

The introduction of Falone Sumaili provided the Bantams with more attacking purpose, however Leeds held out for the final 15 minutes to record a deserved victory.
