CITY HELD TO FIRST-ROUND DRAW

9 November 2019

City will host Shrewsbury Town in an Emirates FA Cup first-round replay, next Tuesday (November 19), after a 1-1 draw at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Gary Bowyer's side took the lead in the first half, though were held by their Sky Bet League One opponents after being pegged back before the interval.

The Bantams began the affair on the front foot, breaking the deadlock with 19 minutes on the clock.

After a long ball upfield was flicked on by skipper James Vaughan, Aramide Oteh delicately lifted the ball over Joe Murphy before applying the finishing touches for his second goal in as many matches.

The hosts responded well, though, and were level just before the half-hour mark.

Shaun Whalley's cross was headed down into the path of Josh Laurent by Scott Golbourne, with the former smashing home to even the affair.

City were handed an opportunity to re-take the lead, just before the hour mark, through Dylan Connolly.

Vaughan's flick-on saw the flying winger in on goal, though his heavy touch saw the effort thwarted by Murphy in the home goal.

Gary Bowyer's men the went within inches of re-taking the lead, with 13 minutes remaining.

Connor Wood fashioned a cross after his initial corner was blocked. which was headed against the post by Ben Richards-Everton.

City went in search of a winner late on, but 1-1 it remained, meaning a place in the second round will be decided by a replay at the Utilita Energy Stadium.
