BOWYER LOOKING FOR MACCLESFIELD REACTION

29 November 2019

Gary Bowyer has called for his players to respond to a "disappointing" run of results, ahead of tomorrow’s game against Macclesfield Town.

The Bantams have suffered elimination from both the Emirates FA Cup and Leasing.com Trophy, before a 2-1 defeat at Plymouth Argyle, last weekend.

But Bowyer suggested City’s trip to Devon represented an out-of-sorts display, and is looking forward to seeing a reaction at Moss Rose.

He said: "We have an honest group of players.

"They were shown the Plymouth game on Monday and put their hands up to admit the standards were not up to ones we have set, especially in the first half.

"It is probably the first time this season where that has happened. It was just one of them days but we can recognise when we have not been up to it.

"We have put that to bed now and learnt from it, so are ready to go again on Saturday.

"We are looking forward to seeing if we can respond to last week as well as we hope to.

"So far, in training and in the behind-closed-doors friendly we played on Tuesday, we have been very good. Hopefully, we can continue that."

Bowyer is looking forward to regaining rhythm in Sky Bet League Two and insists the Cheshire outfit will provide a tough challenge.

The original Moss Rose clash was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch last month and the Bantams boss expects Saturday’s hosts to be well up for the re-arranged tie.

He added: "We were in a flow of fixtures and results at the time the first game was called off, which was disappointing.

"We are just really looking forward to this one now, against what will be a very well-organised team.

"They are going through a tough sitauon at the moment, but I have been through something similar and know for a fact it galvanises the whole group.

"The manager there is doing a fantastic job in handling the players and the current state of the football club.

"They have been fighting for each other, as you saw with a clean sheet at Salford - last week - and we need to make sure we are at it."

Supporters can PAY ON THE GATE for tomorrow’s encounter, with over 1,400 City supporters set to make the trip to Macclesfield.
