CITY APPOINT TAYLOR AS GOALKEEPING COACH

8 March 2019

Bradford City are delighted to announce the appointment of Maik Taylor as the club’s new goalkeeping coach.

The 47-year-old, who represented Northern Ireland as an international, has agreed a short-term contract to keep him at the Northern Commercials Stadium until at least the end of the season.

Taylor retired from playing in 2013 - having close to 600 competitive appearances - and has recently been working as Northern Ireland’s goalkeeping coach.

The former Premier League stopper took part in training for the first time this morning, as the Bantams put the finishing touches to their preparations for tomorrow’s game against Peterborough United.

“I am really pleased to be here and am excited by the opportunity to work for such a great club,” said the former Birmingham and Fulham player.

“I have been working with the Northern Ireland senior squad for more than five years, since retiring, and have kept my options open for a full-time position.

“I got a call yesterday and didn’t hesitate to come down and get involved.

“I think I can bring a lot of experience, as will Gary Bowyer and Andy Todd, and I will do everything I can to assist.

“I had a sharp session with the goalkeepers this morning and I was impressed with what I saw.

“I am looking forward to continuing my work with them and it will be good to take in a game, tomorrow.

“Working closely with the goalkeepers will allow me to offer my advice and coaching, as well as tailoring the sessions around how the manager wants us to play.

“If everyone pulls in the same direction then we should be able to change our fortunes - and pull away from where we are in the league.”

City boss Gary Bowyer added: “I am delighted to have secured Maik’s services. It was an area which needed addressing.

“Maik will bring a wealth of experience and his expertise and knowledge will be massive for us.

“I am sure his arrival will really help support the ‘keepers and I would like to thank Stefan (Rupp) and Julian (Rhodes) for helping us get this sorted very quickly.”
