BOWYER HOPING FOR MORE OF THE SAME

Gary Bowyer is demanding more of the same from his Bantams ahead of tonight’s Sky Bet League One game against league-leading Luton Town.

City ran out impressive 3-1 winners over play-off contenders Peterborough United on Saturday, as Bowyer took charge for the first time.

And the Bantams manager, who arrived at the club eight days ago, is hoping his side can kick on.

Bowyer said: “We have to try and build on our performance from Saturday.

“The players trained well yesterday and we are looking forward to the occasion.

“If you looked at last Monday and compared it to this Monday - it is a completely different place.

“That comes simply from working very, very hard. We are facing another tough challenge but we have got good footballers and have to go and have a right good go at Luton.

“We know there will be times when we are without the ball and we have to be patient with our defending.

“We will need the fantastic support like we had on Saturday, again. But we have got goals in the team, we can score and create goals.

“When you have got that in your team, you have always got a chance in the game.”

Bowyer will be without Kelvin Mellor and Calum Woods, who were both helped from the field during Saturday’s success over Peterborough.

Mellor and Woods underwent scans earlier today and the club awaits information to reveal the full extent of their injuries.

Sean Scannell is back in full training, though Danny Devine (foot) is facing a short spell on the sidelines.

“We are definitely going to be without Kelvin and Calum and I do not want to rush Sean back, given how long he has been out,” added Bowyer.

“It was a blow to lose them during Saturday’s game but Adam (Chicksen) and Paul (Caddis) came on and were fantastic for us.

“We will manage the squad as best we can and name the team we believe can get something from the game.

“On the whole, the squad is pretty small but we only have a few injuries. We have some concern over Kelvin’s injury but will know more later in the week.”
