BANTAMS TO COVER NEW GROUND

3 June 2019

City will venture into uncharted territory during the 2019/20 season, with first-ever fixtures against Forest Green and newly-promoted Salford.

With Forest Green only gaining promotion to the EFL in 2017 - having spent their entire history prior outside the top 92 - the Bantams’ two Sky Bet League Two fixtures against the Rovers will be firsts for both clubs.

This also applies for Salford City who, since their takeover by Singapore-based billionaire Peter Lim and the ‘Class of 92’ in 2014, have enjoyed four promotions over the previous five campaigns.

Their most recent - from the National League following a 3-0 victory over AFC Fylde in last month’s play-off final - will also see them ply their trade in English football’s fourth tier for the first time in their history.

The Bantams will travel to Moor Lane and The New Lawn and welcome both sides to Valley Parade in unprecedented fixtures over the course of the coming campaign.

In addition to games against Forest Green and Salford, next season will also see Gary Bowyer’s men travel to Cambridge United and Newport County for their first league meetings since pre-2000.

Despite entertaining The U’s in a Football League Trophy match, back in 2016, City have not faced the Cambridgeshire outfit in a league meeting since 1995.

The Bantams’ trip to the Abbey Stadium, next term, will be their first in 25 years.

And it is even longer since Newport County visited the Northern Commercials Stadium.

The Welsh club, with former City man Michael Flynn at the helm, will visit West Yorkshire during the 2019/20 campaign for the first time in 35 years.

The two sides last faced each other in the Bantams’ Third Division title-winning campaign of 1984/85.
