CITY SEE OFF GUISELEY IN PRE-SEASON OPENER

6 July 2019

City made a winning start to their pre-season campaign, with a 2-0 triumph at Guiseley.

A goal either side of the interval from two completely different away line-ups did the damage at Nethermoor, with Clayton Donaldson and trialist Mason Fawns on target for Gary Bowyer’s Bantams.

The hosts enjoyed the majority of the early exchanges, but the Bantams grew into the contest and began asserting their authority after the first 15 minutes.

And, after increasing pressure, the visitors broke the deadlock with just over half an hour on the clock.

After some neat wing play, Sean Scannell fashioned a teasing ball into the area which an unmarked Clayton Donaldson met to head past City’s George Sykes-Kenworthy – on trial at Guiseley – in the home net.

City remained in control of the contest, but the Lions still threatened on the break.

Richard O’Donnell had to be alert in the City net, making a flying stop to deny a fierce Kaine Felix strike from range.

Bowyer’s men came sharply back out after the interval and, after showing plenty of intent, doubled their advantage ten minutes into the second period.

Omari Patrick’s cross into the box broke allowing two trialists to combine for City’s second – with Chay Tilt teeing up Mason Fawns who rolled into the back of the net.

The Bantams continued to press, with both Jordan Gibson and James Vaughan going close, though 2-0 it remained.

City continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to Brighouse Town this Tuesday (July 9 - 7.30pm).
