CITY WIN IN ABANDONED FRIENDLY

27 July 2019

The Bantams signed off their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 victory over Rochdale, in a game which was abandoned at half-time.

A solitary strike from Eoin Doyle saw City emerge victorious in what was 45-minute affair at the Crown Oil Arena - called off due to adverse weather conditions.

The visitors started brightly against higher-league opposition, with James Vaughan, Clayton Donaldson and Jordan Gibson all going close.

Richard O’Donnell had to be alert, however, to deny a menacing Olli Rathbone strike from the edge of the area as a torrential downpour ensued.

Gary Bowyer’s side broke the deadlock with 38 minutes on the clock after Clayton Donaldson was appended inside the area.

Eoin Doyle stepped up and delivered for the the Bantams, sending his spot kick into the bottom corner - past the despairing dive of Robert Sanchez - for 1-0.

The match officials held discussions on the pitch after the half-time whistle had sounded and, after concluding the pitch was no longer playable, abandoned the contest.
