BOWYER PLEASED WITH GUISELEY TEST

6 July 2019

Gary Bowyer was delighted with the way his Bantams dealt with "different tests" they faced, as his side began their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory at Guiseley.

The City manager fielded a different line-up in both halves and is delighted with how his players have reacted to the first few weeks of pre-season training.

He said: “We were expecting a good work out in today’s game and it has proved exactly that.

“It is a good way to end the past two weeks for the players, because the first part of pre-season training has been very tough for them.

“The most pleasing thing for me is everyone playing 45 minutes and coming through the match unscathed.

“We scored two good goals and kept a clean sheet which is an added bonus. Today has given us a real platform to build on.”

Bowyer says this afternoon has filled him with encouragement ahead of the remaining pre-season fixtures in preparation for the coming campaign.

The City chief is looking forward to seeing how training takes its course over the coming weeks and has hinted he could be tempted to experiment further in the upcoming fixtures.

The former Blackburn chief added: “I have said in the early stages, the way the lads have been able to gel and connect with each other - and how quickly they have done it - has been really good.

“We have to continue the work, and the plans we have in place for the coming week will hopefully add to that, before we finish with a fantastic game against Liverpool next Sunday.

“There is every chance we will carry on experimenting over the next few friendlies. The aim is to have a look at different players and formations to see which system suits us best.

“Pre-season is good in having a look at those sorts of things, and the hard work will carry on.”

City return to pre-season action on Tuesday, taking on Brighouse Town at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium (7.30pm).
