Rising midfield star Lewis O’Brien will return to full training next week after scans ruled out serious injury.

O’Brien, 20, was helped from the field during the first half of City’s 3-0 victory over Accrington on New Year's Day.

The Huddersfield Town loanee initially played on, following a heavy collision with Stanley striker Offrande Zanzala.

But shortly after Zanzala was shown a straight red card for the challenge, O’Brien hobbled towards the sidelines.

The youngster has suffered some bruising to his ankle and has had stitches to repair shin damage.

Meanwhile, Luca Colville and Kelvin Mellor will be back in contention later this month.

Hope Akpan is likely to be available for selection from next week, while Sean Scannell continues to recover from a back injury.

Scannell is expected to return to action in February and Jake Reeves is continuing outdoor fitness work, after completing a lengthy rehabilitation programme.

The Bantams return to action next Saturday, taking on Barnsley in Sky Bet League One.
