O'BRIEN AGREES EARLY RELEASE

8 January 2019

Scottish midfielder Jim O’Brien has been released from the remainder of his contract.

The 31-year-old agreed a short-term deal with the Bantams in September.

His City contract was due to expire next week and O’Brien has turned down an offer to remain at the Northern Commercials Stadium for the remainder of the season.

Today the club mutually agreed to end his contract early, allowing O’Brien to take up an offer elsewhere.

City manager David Hopkin said: “I would like to thank Jim for all of his efforts since arriving at the club last year.

“We made Jim an offer to stay with us until the end of the season, though he was looking for a longer-term option.

“Jim has battled through a couple of injury setbacks and has given his all for us.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to wish him the very best for the future.”

O’Brien made 16 appearances in City colours after arriving at the club following a trial period with Barnsley.
