RODNEY JOHNSON (1945-2019)

20 December 2019

The club is saddened to learn of the passing of former captain Rodney Johnson, aged 74.

Johnson (#675) joined City back in 1973, signing from Rotherham United, and went on to score 19 goals in 216 appearances.

He began his career with Leeds United under the tutelage of Don Revie, having made 22 appearances and grabbed four goals. He then left Elland Road to join Doncaster.

Johnson was a combative midfield player, with an eye for goal, and a captain who led from the front.

In 1979, Johnson departed Valley Parade and joined Gainsborough Trinity. He left City at the same time as Peter Downsborough announced his retirement.

The thoughts and prayers of all at Bradford City Football Club are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Rodney Johnson.
