BOWYER LOOKING FOR MORE GOALS AGAINST SALFORD

20 December 2019

Gary Bowyer has challenged his Bantams to push for more goals - ahead of tomorrow’s meeting with Salford City.

City have kept consecutive clean sheets in their past two games, scoring one goal.

While impressed by the defensive solidity, Bowyer believes his men can work to be more ruthless in front of goal and pick up more points over the festive period.

He said: “We have to keep woking hard to score more goals.

“We have had opportunities to score, even at Leyton Orient when we did not look as threatening, going forward.

“We need to keep getting in those positions and creating chances.

“The concern comes when the opportunities to score do not arrive.

“We are naturally delighted with the clean sheets. We have been defending determinedly over the past few games and have deserved them.

“It has been a real team effort and we have been glad with how we are moving.

“At the moment, the chances to score are still there, so it is a just a case of it clicking. I think when it does, we will get better and better.”

Tomorrow’s encounter represents City’s first ever fixture with the Ammies, who earned promotion to the EFL for the first time in their history, last season.

Bowyer is looking forward to being involved in an “exciting” occasion and is ready to face the challenge they will bring.

The Bantams boss added: “It is no surprise to see Salford in the league, now. You only have to look at the squad they have to see how capable they are.

“They recruited well in the summer and have owners who are doing a fabulous job.

“They have got a very experienced management duo, who I have come across several times.

“Graham Alexander did a fantastic job at Scunthorpe and has promotion on his CV - which tells you all you need to know about him and his side.

“It should be a great challenge and we are looking forward to it.”
