BOWYER FRUSTRATED NOT TO TAKE THREE POINTS

Gary Bowyer was disappointed not to have taken all three points, following a 1-1 draw at home to Salford City.

The Bantams controlled proceedings for the most part, with 26 attempts on goal in the two sides’ first-ever meeting.

And the City boss was adamant his side’s performance was worthy of more than a draw.

Bowyer said: “It was frustrating for us and for everyone in the stadium, because it was clear to see we were the better team.

“We controlled possession and limited Salford to having just one shot on target.

“We were very happy with the performance but there was definitely an air of frustration with the result.

“We should have been 2-0 up at half-time, with the chances we created - both in open play and from set pieces.

“The performances are getting better and are moving in the right direction, in terms of where we want them to be, which is good.

“But we want to be winning games so are very disappointed with the result.”

A sickness bug throughout the camp forced Bowyer into three changes to his starting 11, with captain James Vaughan and Adam Henley missing out.

Despite the absences, the City chief was proud with the battling of his side and the performances of the players who were restored to the side.

He added: “We have had a lot of disruption this week, with a sickness bug throughout the camp.

“Five or six players have been ill. Zeli fell ill during the game so we could not bring him off the bench. Despite that, the players went about their business brilliantly.

“They performed really well which was why we had to back them and give them the credit they credit.

“We lost our captain, James Vaughan, and Adam Henley, this morning, to the illness and had to make some changes.

“In terms of the players we brought in, Dylan Connolly and Harry Pritchard both performed really well and fit right in.

“We have shown what a good squad we have and need to recover and get ready to go again - on Boxing Day.”
