James Vaughan insists City are "ready" for the 2019/20 campaign, ahead of their season opener against Cambridge United tomorrow (Saturday).

The newly-named captain is in line to lead the Bantams out - in his first competitive game for the club - at the Utilita Energy Stadium this weekend.

And the former Everton man is confident he and his team-mates could not be any better prepared for the challenge the U’s will provide.

Vaughan said: “We have done a lot of work on Cambridge this week.

“There has been video work and tactical-based training on how we can go at them and beat them.

“Gary (Bowyer) has not left a stone unturned with regards to this weekend’s game and we are confident of getting a result.

“We are going in prepared and ready to give it everything we have.

“It is important to set our stall out this weekend - to set our own standards for the remainder of the season.”

Vaughan, 31, classes himself as one of the “senior members of the squad” and, as captain, is relishing the prospect of leading from the front.

He added: “Being a leader of this side was something I very much set out to do when I came here.

“I am at the time of my career where I feel a responsibility to help others.

“I have been around the block a bit and would like to think I carry a wealth of knowledge I am able to pass on.

“The likes of myself, Clayton (Donaldson) and Eoin (Doyle) are all senior heads, who are hoping to lead by example.

“We are all more than willing to help the younger lads out in any way we can throughout the course of the season.”

The action is due to get underway from 3.00pm at the Utilita Energy Stadium on Saturday. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
