BOWYER SPEAKS OF DISAPPOINTMENT AS BANTAMS ARE RELEGATED

19 April 2019

City manager Gary Bowyer has spoken of his disappointment after the Bantams’ relegation from Sky Bet League One was confirmed.

A 2-0 defeat to play-off chasing Coventry City, coupled with results going against Bowyer’s side elsewhere, mean the Bantams will operate in the fourth tier of English football next season.

Bowyer said: “It is obviously very tough to take for everyone connected to the club.

“We started the game well, and had good chances early on, but Coventry scored from their first real attack.

“It was poor defending from us and we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. Those instances pretty much sum up our season.

“We haven’t been good enough in either penalty box and we are where we are.

“It is not nice for the supporters, who are so proud of their club, but we have to conduct ourselves in a professional manner until the end of the season.

“After that we have a big task on our hands, which is already being prepared for.”

Goalkeeper Ben Wilson was handed his first league start.

And Bowyer got a look at Danny Devine from the bench, the youngster appearing for the first time in Sky Bet League One action this season.

Bowyer added: “Everyone who steps out on the field from now until the end of the season has a job interview.

“Today gave us a chance to have a look at Ben and Danny - and they both did well.

"I haven’t decided on Monday’s team just yet but we may look to change things around.”
