City head coach David Hopkin is relishing the prospect of his first game in charge, as the Bantams gear up for tomorrow’s trip to Blackpool (3.00pm).
Hopkin put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the club earlier this week and was formally introduced as the new Bradford boss yesterday.
The former Scotland international, born in Greenock, was a Bradford player in the early 2000s and featured for Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Leeds in a 15-year professional career.
After guiding Livingston to the Scottish Premiership - with back-to-back promotions - Hopkin is delighted to be at the City helm.
“This is a challenge I am really looking forward to taking on and I have been waiting for the right club,” said the 48-year-old.
“I have been working with the players for a few days now and it has been thoroughly enjoyable.
“We have a talented squad and there is a good blend of personnel. I pride myself on developing young and exciting players.
“We have passionate supporters and I am a passionate person. If we can get the blend right then we will enjoy success this season.
“I am very comfortable in my own ability. As long as people witness development and they see a clear plan of what you are trying to achieve then you will get the backing of the fans.
“The supporters will see a difference in the team. I want them to feel proud of the club.
“I am ambitious and I want to work at the top level. I like to build something wherever I coach and that is what I am looking to do at Bradford.”
In 24 hours’ time, Hopkin’s side will be back in Sky Bet League One action - at 11th-placed Blackpool.
And the Bradford boss has spoken of how City face a “tough test”.
“Blackpool are a good side and it will be a challenge for us,” said Hopkin.
“The players have prepared well, though, and everyone is looking forward to the game.
“Of course, every head coach is under pressure to achieve results.
“When things are going well in football, everyone is fine. When you are having a blip, or times aren’t quite as good as you would hope, you find out where you are.
“It is about sticking together and knowing that everyone here at Bradford City is pulling in the right direction.
“That is the key going forward. We are all one. This is not about me, it is about the community and making people want to come here and enjoy games on a Saturday and a Tuesday.”
