Bantams boss David Hopkin spoke of his delight last night after City battled to sweep aside Oxford United on home soil.
Goals from David Ball and Jack Payne ensured the Bantams picked up a vital three points, moving them to within four points of safety.
Karl Henry debuted after joining the club 24 hours prior on Friday, while Paul Caddis made his first appearance at the Northern Commercials Stadium.
Hopkin said: “It was a fantastic result for us. We started the game on the front foot and - to score two early goals - settled us down.
“That got the fans behind us and the place was electric for the whole 90 minutes.
“We have added great composure in Paul Caddis and Karl Henry, who helped manage the younger boys.
“Jack Payne and David Ball really stepped up, once again. They caused Oxford problems with their movement and their passing.
“Kai Bruenker played well with Eoin Doyle, winning a lot of headers, and Eoin looked like he was enjoying playing alongside him.
“It was important we tried to get the victory. We were brave, having nearly five players up front, and it paid off for us. The players managed the game and were superb. There was a lot of pressure on us and, if we had lost, we would have been 10 points adrift.
“We have to make sure that we have the same attitude and confidence in all the games to come. If we show that desire, then the fans will show their support.
“It is always good to get your first home league victory. We have that off of our backs now.”
More than 19,000 attended the fixture, including City legend Stephen Darby, who made his official return to Valley Parade.
Hopkin added: “A great deal of credit must go to our supporters. They gave us tremendous backing and the players now realise what a stadium like this can be like when we perform in such a manner.
“It was great to see Stephen Darby. Even at half-time - when I was in the changing room - you could hear the whole stadium erupting - showing their support. It shows you how much he means to the club.
“From that perspective, it was a very emotional day, but a great day all around - for everyone connected to Bradford City.”
The Bantams return to Sky Bet League One action on Tuesday evening, travelling to face Luton Town.
